Collin Mezin (père - father) violin.

A beautiful French master violin,attributed to Baptiste Collin-Mezin père, (father) made circa 1900.

The violin has a professional certificate issued by French violin expert Philippe Ferrard in Paris.
The rich brownish varnish is attractively textured ; a very good workmanship as you may expect from this famous violin maker.
A very nice example of this maker's work  : the back, ribs and scroll of deeply flamed maple.
The sound is big, well projected, mature and warm in character.

This Collin-Mezin father violin responds very easily and has a well balanced tone in all the registers of the instrument. 
This beautiful instrument is in a good condition.
New tailpiece and strings included. Interesting price for this kind of violin.

Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin (1841–1923) was a distinguished French maker of violins, violas, cellos, basses and bows. 

He was an Officier de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts and won gold and silver medals at the Paris Exhibitions in 1878, 1889, and 1900. (from Wikipedia).

COLLIN-MEZIN, Charles (II) Born 1870 Amboise, died 1934, Mirecourt France. Son and assistant of Charles Jean-Baptiste Collin, above. 

Travelled widely and stayed in America before returning to Mirecourt 1900.
