A fine French violin Honore Derazey atelier.

This is a beautiful old French violin attributed to the Honoré Derazey workshop, made after a beautiful Maggini model, made ca. 1860.

The varnish is beautifully coated with a luminously of transparent and radiant yellow/brown/ornage colours.
The violin wears an old "Vuillaume a Paris" label inside.
A beautiful 2-piece maple-striped back, very nice ribs and a well crafted scroll.
The violin has 2 repairs in the table but no sound post cracks, some old scratches and some varnish wear. (see pics).
Sold as a repair project - interesting price.

Biography of Honore Derazey :

DERAZEY, Honoré (Jean-Joseph) Born 1794 Darney, died 1883 Mirecourt France. Apprenticed in Mirecourt, then employed in Paris at various ateliers. Established his own business in Mirecourt which was quickly very successful. Awards gained in Paris 1839, 1849 and 1855, and London 1851. Very prolific maker, especially after c.1844, following Stradivari and (rarely) Amati models. Many sold through J. B. Vuillaume who inserted his own label. Made several instruments passed off as the work of Gaspar Duiffoprugcar in the wake of misguided attempts to show that this maker, and not Andrea Amati, was the originator of the violin in Lyons in the early 16th century. Bevor er sich in Mirecourt als Fabrikant selbstständig machte, arbeitete er einige Jahre in Paris bei verschiedenen Meistern. Seine Geigen, gewöhnlich nach Stradivari, seltener nach Amati gemacht, sind aus gutem Holz und tragen eine Brandmarke mit seinem Namen, die freilich oft nur nach Öffnung der Geige zu finden ist.
