A beautiful authentic old Italian cella da spalla,also called 'shoulder' cello or contra-violin,
shoulder viola, viola da spalla, made in Italy, end 18th century - to mid. 19th century - from the central part of Italy.
According the opinion of several Italian experts this also can be a De Zorzi contraviolino kind of instrument.
Famous music artists like Gregory Barnett, Sigiswald Kuijken and Dimitry Badiarov have
uncovered much information about “da Spalla." and are playing this beautiful instrument.
This is a very rare instrument - not many of these instruments survived !
This instrument can also be used and tuned as a contra-violin or large tenor viola, but it is currnetly setup as a cello.
The instrument is in a good condition for its age.
Can be tuned like a cello or tenor viola.
