A Beautiful historical Jacques Boquay viola ca. 1720.

A super rare old historical French viola, made ca. 1720 (300 years old !).
One of the oldest French instrument schools known, were those of the Boquay school.
Here we have a beautiful instrument in a good condition for ts age, made in Jacques Bocquay atelier.
A two-piece back of fine maple, the beautifull French scroll later. Like many large viola's from that period ,
the viola has been resized, in the 19th century.
The work is quite good, a beautiful amber / brown varnish,
and elegant outlines an fine purfling. As we can read in the Henley violin dictionary,
there are almost no Bocquyi violas left with their original scrolls on.(they put them on the old Italian viola's).
This is your chance to own a historical instrument !
This old viola comes with a new set of strings.

The viola produces a strong open, but warm tone.
LOB: 390 mm (4/4).
