Collin Mezin (père - father) violin.

A beautiful certified French violin made by Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin père, father made circa 1900. (Philippe Ferrard in Paris.)
The rich dark brownish-red varnish is attractively textured ; a very good workmanship as you may expect from this famous violin maker.
A very nice example of this maker's work  : the back, ribs and scroll of deeply flamed maple.
The sound is big, well projected, mature and warm in character.

This Collin-Mezin father violin responds very easily and has a well balanced tone in all the registers of the instrument. 
This beautiful instrument is in a good condition, and comes with a professional certificate of authenticity from expert Philippe Ferrard in Paris.

Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin (1841–1923) was a distinguished French maker of violins, violas, cellos, basses and bows. 

He was an Officier de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts and won gold and silver medals at the Paris Exhibitions in 1878, 1889, and 1900. (from Wikipedia).
